Ever wanted to travel widely with your caravan while learning about Australia, but not sure you're ready to go into the wilds by yourself? This is the tag-along for you.  On sealed roads (except short trips into camps), this journey follows Leichhardt's first exploration. Led by caravanning instructor Kimberly Olsen, who has been teaching Learn to Tow courses since 2004. She is also a highly experienced outback guide and tyour company owner with more than 24 crossings of the Simpson Desert

Beginning in Jimbour QLD we follow as closely as sealed roads will allow, the journey of Leichhardt's first exploration.

Day 1 Jimbour QLD to Chain Lagoons (1 Nov 1844 to 17 Nov 1844)

Day 2 Chain Lagoons to Rolleston Caravan Park

Day 3 Rolleston Caravan Park to Comet  

Day 4 Comet River to Tieri

Day 5 Tieri to Moranbah

Day 6 Moranbah to Mt Coolon Hotel

Day 7 Mt Coolon Hotel to Charters Towers

Day 8 Charters Towers. Optional
Charters Towers Ghost Tour or Soaring with North Queensland Soaring Centre

Day 9 Charters Towers to Greenvale

Day 10 Greenvale to
Undarah.

Day 11 Undarah to Georgetown.  Optional morning (2 hour) tour of Lava Tubes

Day 12 Georgetown to Normanton. Optional Gulflander Critters Camp Train

Day 13 Normanton to Four ways to Gregory Downs

Day 14 Gregory Downs to Burketown

Day 15 Burketown. Optional hot air ballooning and/or Indigenous story
telling and star gazing.

Day 16 Burketown to Hells Gate

Day 17 Hells Gate to Boroloola - King Ash Bay (41.2 kilometres of
gravel to our camp)

Day 18 King Ash Bay. Optional fishing charter.

Day 19 King Ash Bay to October Creek (rest area)

Day 20 October Creek to Mataranka Hot Springs

Day 21 Mataranka

Day 22 Mataranka to Kakadu (Mardukal)

Day 23 Kakadu. Take a look around.

Day 24 Kakadu to Darwin.

If you wish, you can arrange a boat tour to Victoria settlement on the day
after the tour and go to where Leichhardt finished his expedition. Only
accessible by boat or helicopter.

 





















































Itineraries may change for
safety or reasons of weather or other unforeseen events. We reserve the right
to change the itinerary as required. Please allow several days extra at the end
of the trip in case of bad weather. While it has not yet happened to us. Such
trips may be delayed in the middle of the desert due to rain. The ONLY choice
is to sit it out.
